Description

Morning twilight at the Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Stars in the constellation Sagittarius appear in the Milky Way on the right of this telephoto image. The little pale red cloud there is the Lagoon Nebula or M8, a giant inter-stellar cloud located 5000 light years away. On the Earth the Lower Yellowstone Falls drops 94 m (308 feet ), almost twice as much as Niagara, and the Yellowstone river continues in a colorful valley known as the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The colors in the canyon are the result of hydrothermal alteration. Established in 1872 the Yellowstone is the world’s earliest national park, known for its wildlife and geothermal features. Click on the second photo to see a closer view of the falls under stars.
