The Bears on the Gulf

Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, the two bears in the sky, are best known by public with their prominent asterism figures the Big Dipper and Little Dipper. The constellation figures taken from engravings by astronomer Johannes Hevelius made in the 17th Century. In this view from Lanzarote island in Canary Archipelago, the two bears stand over an amazing beach, known as the Gulf, surrounded by volcanic lava flows of ancient eruptions. As noted by the photographer “At the foot of the cliff a small pond is formed with a striking deep emerald green color of which the water are filtered from the sea. This place is known for its rare olivine, a semi-precious stone.”
