Description

The southern hemisphere view of the Milky Way above an Algarrobo (in Spanish) tree San Pedro de Atacama region. Algarrobo trees are in the genus of Prosopis; leguminous spiny trees and shrubs found in subtropical and tropical regions of the Americas, Africa and southwest Asia. Also notable in this image is the famous Licancabur volcano (5920 meters) at the bottom right. It is a beautiful highly symmetrical stratovolcano on the southernmost part of the border between Chile and Bolivia.
