Martir Star Trails

Stars trail over San Pedro Martir observatory in this long exposure image from Baja California, northwestern Mexico. Forms by the Earth rotation (which causes the sky rotation above us) startrails are centered by the celestial poles. Here the north celestial pole, marked by star Polaris, is hided behind the observatory. Officially known as the Observatorio Astronómico Nacional or OAN, this is the site of Mexico’s National Observatory, first established in Mexico City in 1878 and finally moved to this dark and high altitude (2800m) location in 1967.
