Description

The red planet Mars meets with bright star Regulus in Leo to form a scenic celestial conjunction, as photographed from the World Heritage site of Fertö/Neusiedler in Hungary. The photographer colleague has used a green laser to point to the both objects during the photo exposure. Venus is a second planet in this view near the horizon, while another captured member of the solar system is asteroid Vesta, barely visible at the upper right of the image. Neusiedl Lake area (shared between Austria and Hungary) has been the meeting place of different cultures for eight millennia. The remarkable rural architecture of the villages surrounding the lake and several historic palaces adds to the area’s considerable cultural interest.
