Lying under the Galactic Arch
Description
The Milky Way arches above Monfragüe National Park. A group of stargazers observe the night sky of late summer above the Monfrague Castle from 12th century. As noted by the photographer “This image is a panoramic view which starts from southwest (left) where bright planet Jupiter is visible next to the Summer Triangle asterism. On Earth one can see the Tajo river, the longest river in the Iberian peninsula. The panorama expands to the southeast (right) where the constellation Orion is rising. The Milky Way is captured as an arch centered on the north.”
