Description

A camel rider rests besides his small caravan in a desert night near Cairo. While for thousands of years the spectacular clear starry night of desert amazed Egyptians, during the last few decades the light pollution of major cities entirely changed the natural look of the night sky. The constellations Scorpius and Sagittarius along with the brightest part of the Milky Way is still visible in this image while the light of Cairo dominates the sky on the left.
