Dubai at Night
Description
As seen on NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day a starry night over the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is really not so starry. In fact, the Moon is the only celestial beacon to come close to competing with city lights in this night skyscape, a situation all too familiar to urban skygazers. The futuristic looking scene is dominated by the 828 meter tall Khalifa Tower, presently the tallest free standing structure on planet Earth. The very brightest stars are the last remaining stars in this urban sky. Capella is left of the tower and Aldebaran, Betelgeuse, Rigel, and stars in Orion’s Belt can just be also identified. Move the slider on the image to see the labels. Now you realize the top of the world’s tallest tower is not really the highest point in this view!

What an amazing shot of the tallest building in the world. I last saw it on the net when it was being constructed. I would love a small photo of it but do not have credit cards. Can you let me know how to get a copy another way. I am terminally ill so do not take too long as I would like to have it on my PC as wallpaper to enjoy for a little while. I was amazed at how much you crammed in your life and still be a young person. Well done.
