Venus and Jupiter Conjuction

From the photographer: “On the 8th and 9th of June, we were able to observe a planetary conjunction; Jupiter and Venus appear close together in the sky as viewed from Earth. The planets are not actually close to one another in space but appear aligned because of their positions along their orbital paths. The view was quite appealing to the eyes and due to the fact that planets are visible even in the heavy light polluted city, like the city centre of Athens, everyone could witness this astronomical event.

Without having plenty of alternatives, I headed towards the Acropolis hill in order to capture the conjunction above the visitor center of the National Observatory of Athens, at Thision. The weather conditions were just as I wished and even I was in a rush (last minute decision), I got at the spot the right time; during twilight. As the daylight was fading away, we were able to see also Mercury a couple of degrees lower than Jupiter and Venus, making the frame a bit more interesting than it already was.”
