Description

Starry sky at the break of dawn over two giant telescopes on Mauna Kea peak (4200 m high, ~ 14,000 ft), the highest point of Hawaii. The Gemini North (foreground) is an 8-meter telescope and its southern twin is located in Chile. The CFHT (Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope) is on the background. On the upper right the elongated halo of Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is visible next to the faint band of the Milky Way. Click on the second photo to see another view of the mountain-top observatory.
