Description

Aurora Borealis appears over the Arctic landscape of Svalbard at 78 degrees north. Also notable in the view is the Moon and planet Jupiter in the constellation Taurus. Gemini is at the upper left and Orion is standing right above the horizon in the middle. Click on the second photo to see an earlier twilight view of this scene. Svalbard is an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, constituting the northernmost part of Norway, about midway between mainland Norway and the North Pole. © Serge Brunier
