Description

The morning twilight arrives over Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park; a World Heritage Site in Northern Territory of Australia. The area is best known for Uluru or Ayers Rock, a single massive rock formation in the center of this image which is one of Australia’s best known natural features. The giant monolith extends about 5 km beneath the desert plain and measures 3.6 by 2.4 km at the surface. It rises 348 meters above the plain. In the background night sky the Moon meets Venus on the left, and iconic southern stars in constellation Centaurus, Crux (the Southern Cross), and Carina are visible on the right. © Tunc Tezel
