Description

From the photographer:” In the first week of March 2026, I traveled to Florida to visit relatives, and also for the total Lunar eclipse of 3rd March 2026, which otherwise would not be observable from back home in Turkey. For the night of the eclipse, I drove 160 km from Hallandale (north of Miami) to the gulf coast of Everglades NP. The weather was totally clear, which provided nice views of the Moon low in the west during the eclipse.

How low was the Moon? It was about 7 degrees above the western horizon in the beginning of totality. I shot this picture at 0610 EST. As the Moon is low in the west, the Sun is trying to come up in the east, so we have nice blue colours in the sky. I did not realize on site, but there were some additional reds in the sky on small wisps of low clouds, as well as the reds on the Moon.

Second picture shows how the Moon looked just a couple minutes before totality. To me, this eclipse seemed slightly darker than average, but that might be a result of having the Moon low in the west and dimmed by the thicker column of atmosphere.”
