Description

From the photographer: “The Freudenburg castle ruins are a spur castle on a mountain promontory of the 440 meter high Eiderberg near the town of Freudenburg in Rhineland- Palatinate. From 1330 to 1337, King John of Bohemia, Count of Luxembourg, had the fortress built on a 16 meter high sandstone rock. Already in ruins in the 15th century, it came to the  Abbey of St. Maximin in Trier (the oldest city of Germany) in 1589, was rebuilt and finally destroyed in 1646 during disputes between the abbey and the elector. On this slightly cloudy evening, the wonderful Orion pays an honorable visit to the historic walls. The picture was taken over the municipality of Freudenburg in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, Europe.”
