Description

From the photographer: “As the sun set in the west in northeastern Germany, a full moon appeared on the eastern horizon. However, unlike on other clear evenings, it was not visible. On September 7, 2025, our Earth’s satellite was already deep in the Earth’s shadow, and its expected red face was too faint to be noticeable in the still bright twilight. It was only after the blue hour that the spectacle could be admired above the pier and the pretty lighthouse in the small harbor town of Saßnitz on the island of Rügen (54°51′ north and 13°63′ east). The eclipsed moon was accompanied by the outer planet Saturn, which was soon to reach opposition with the sun.”
