Description

I really like the sky in my country, I’m relatively young and trying to develop astrophotography and stargazing in my country. The city of Ur and the Sumerian civilization are one the earliest civilizations that developed astronomy. Photographed here is the Ziggurat of Ur in present-day Dhi Qar Province, Iraq. The structure was built during the Early Bronze Age (21st century BC) when Ur was the capital of this prominent civilization in Mesopotamia. The ziggurat crumbled to ruins by the 6th century BC when it was restored by King Nabonidus. Its remains were partially reconstructed in 1980s. The massive step pyramid measured 64 m (210 ft) in length, It was a piece in a temple complex in the city; a shrine of the moon god Nanna, the patron deity of Ur.
