Description

In this moonlit night of early spring in southern France, stars of winter constellations are about to set over fortification of Vauban in Mont Louis. Click on the second photo to see another night-time view of this site. This is the highest fortified town of France (1600 m), located near the Pyrenees mountain range. This is one of the 12th Fortifications of Vauban, all listed as World Heritage Sites. They were designed by famous French military engineer Vaubun (1633–1707) and constructed along the borders of France.
