A Celestial Visitor Above Bryce Canyon

Comet NEOWISE is rising in the morning sky over the hoodoo rock formations know as Thor’s Hammer and the Temple of Osiri as seen from hiking the Navajo Trail from Sunrise Point in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. The photo was taken with Nikon D750 camera and 85mm Nikon lens set at 5 seconds at f/2 at iso 1600 on tripod, without tracking. This was the 3rd day of a 10 day trip that I spent around national parks in the Southwest to document this comet. After spending two days shooting in 108 and 117 F degree heat in Joshua Tree and Death Valley it was wonderful to be in this higher Utah elevation to cool off. I expected a lot of other photographers at this famous night sky location at 7000 feet but I only ran into one other person as I was hiking on the trail going to this spot, yet he was returning after a night of shooting at 3am. I mentioned to him a bright comet was going to be visible but I guess he was too tired to stay. What a sight to miss. The sight of a lifetime!
