Description

Immensely bright fireball streaks the sky above Yosemite National Park in California, during moonset. Iconic Half Dome and El Capitan are visible on the right and the North Star (Polaris) is in the center of this fisheye view. The long trace of meteor relates it to earthgrazer fireballs which pass through a long section of the atmosphere. Click on the second photo for a longer exposure (5 min) version of this image with star trails around the north celestial pole. © Babak Tafreshi
