Winter Panorama
Description
A crystal clear winter night above mountains near Kas in southwestern Turkey. Move the slider on the image to see labels and constellation lines. As noted by the photographer “In the weekend of 21-22 February 2009, I aimed Kas by the Mediterranean coast, one of my all-time favorite places to find clear skies. But that meant a 280 km road with 5 mountain passes. After 3 hours drive I stopped at Sinekci Pass, the fourth of these five passes. It was completely dark and the surrounding was covered with snow and above the frozen landscape the beautiful bright Milky Way was eye-catching. Venus was about to set embedded in a bright cone of Zodiacal Light (right side). And to the south, Canopus was shining just over the low lying mist in the canyon.”
