Description

What are the filamentary clouds over the horizon in this image? Many sky enthusiast who thought they had seen it all had never seen anything like this. To the surprise of many Northern Hemisphere observers, the tail of Comet McNaught in January 2007 remained visible even after the comet’s head set ahead of the Sun on the way to the Southern Hemisphere sky. Pictured above, the tail of Comet McNaught was caught just after sunset from South East of France. Notable in the image is also a beautiful conjunction of the Moon and planet Venus. © Vincent Jacques
