The Ancient Lycia
Description
The beautiful line of Venus (lower), the Moon, and Jupiter (above the Moon) in the evening sky above the ancient capital of Lycia. The World Heritage Site of Xanthos, with more than 2500 years of history, illustrates the blending of Lycian traditions and Hellenic influence. It was a center of culture and commerce for the Lycians, and later for the Persians, Macedonians, Greeks, and Romans who in turn conquered the city. In present day the remains are near Kinik in Turkey. As noted by the photographer “I made this panorama of five side by side pictures. I had to shoot four additional shorter exposures to compensate the brightness of the Moon.”
