Description

From the photographer: “I had a chance to observe this fireball visually: it began with an orange tone changing quickly to a green emerald hue. This Geminid was so brilliant that illuminated the landscape with a green tint as visible in this fisheye image.

The foreground in Teide Observatory in Tenerife (Observatorio del Teide) is the dome of MASTER robotic telescope, a Russian global robotic system for monitoring near-Earth and extrasolar objects and events. Just at right in the background is Teide volcano, the highest mountain of Spain. The point lights are mountaineers who climb at night to see the sunrise from the top. The winter Milky Way is visible in the sky, with constellations Orion and Taurus, and bright star Sirius. Red airglow bands are also visible.”

Technical details: Taken with a regular Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon 15mm f2.8 fisheye lens, ISO 3200, 25 s on a static tripod.
