Description

Here is Jinja, famous as the historic source of the Nile River, located on the shore of Lake Victoria in Uganda. How many light sources can you find in this dramatic nightscapse photo? Let’s start to count them; of course, the most significant one is the colorful startrails that are reflected on the river. These lights are natural, eye-catching, and they came from such far distances. The second is light pollution, which mankind causes. This light source is artificial, and it is harmful for all the creatures on Earth. The third one is the most exciting one: the green trace on the river. Can you guess what they are and what source they came from? The lighting bug movement caused these irregular traces. These fireflies produce “cold light” with no infrared or ultraviolet frequencies, which they produce due to a chemical reaction called bioluminescence. These bugs are very sensitive to environmental levels of light, especially light pollution.
