Star Trails above the French Alps

From the photographer: “Star trails over ‘lac de Serre Ponçon’ in the French Alps, captured on august 27th, 2010. The lake in this picture is artificially made by building a dam on the river ‘Durance’ as it flows from the highest peaks in the Alps towards the plains of the Provence. The lake was made in 1960 and celebrated its 50th birthday in the summer when this picture was taken.” – © Katrien Van der Heyden
