Description

As seen on Astronomy Picture of the Day the International Space Station (the brighter trail) and Space Shuttle Discovery cross the sky only some hours after the shuttle detached from the station, for the return trip to home at end of STS-119 mission. This multi-exposure digital stacked image is made of 9 shots each with 10 seconds of exposure from inside the photographer’s personal observatory. The gaps between the trails are caused by the time between the frames. As noted by the photographer “It was a traffic jam over my private observatory! In a span of only a few minutes, I photographed space shuttle Discovery, the International Space Station, and an airplane passing by.”
