Sea to Sky

The Milky Way appears in the morning twilight over La Palma, Canary Islands. Add by the photographer: “The lights in the valley is from one of the most interesting marathon running races, known as the TRANSVULCANICA and take place each year in May in La Palma. It’s also called Sea to Sky. This ultra marathon or Sky Running starts at sea level, up to the Roque de Los Muchachos peak where the observatories are located (~ 2400m high), then running down to Tazacorte, and back up to Llos Lanos. The 2nd image shows the long line of runners and their LED flashlights ascending to the sea level.” Click on the second photo to see a day-time view of the runners reaching the peak and the observatories on the top of La Palma.
