Salina Galaxy

The Milky Way in Scorpius and Sagittarius rises above a salina at the shores of Atlantic Ocean in La Palma, Canary Islands. These salt evaporation ponds are shallow ponds designed to extract salts from sea water by natural evaporation which allows the salt to be subsequently harvested. The ponds also provide a productive resting and feeding ground for many species of waterbirds.
