Ring of Fire Eclipse
Description
A photo composite of multiple exposures. From the photographer: “Chaco Canyon National Historical Park, honored as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is renowned for its remarkable ceremonial and public structures, which are deeply imbued with archaeoastronomical importance. Located in the Navajo reserve, this site has a spiritual and profound historical legacy of the ancient Pueblo culture that once flourished in the American Southwest between the 9th and 12th centuries.
I framed one of the ancient walls of the famous great-house, Pueblo Bonito, with the annular eclipse progression. The foreground was taken at sunrise with the warm morning light highlighting the textures of these walls. Their fragility is also as seen with the buttress against them casting long shadows that serve as leading lines to the eclipse.
It was fantastic to witness this eclipse with friends amongst these ancient ruins in a land with deep astronomical connections to the natural world.
