Red Sprites and Milky Way

From the photographer: “While travelling through Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand, I planned to do a Milky Way arch over Lake Wanaka. As I was setting up I noticed some lightning in the back and clouds rolling towards the Milky Way core. Not wanting to waste time, I quickly set up and thought would shoot some Milky Way core images. The first image was to try and frame the shot right but to my surprise and elation, I noticed lightning sprites right in front of the core! To be able to capture the red sprites and that too in front of the Milky Way core was no less than winning a lottery!”
