Description

The natural limestone formations of “The Pinnacles” in Western Australia provide a spectacular location to view the stars. In the above photograph, the Pinnacles are illuminated by multicolored flashlight during the night-time exposure. The stars swirl around their axis, around the South Celestial Pole. The glow of Perth, Western Australia’s capital city, can be seen emerging from the horizon some 180 kilometers away. The Pinnacles are limestone formations. The raw material for the limestone of the Pinnacles came from seashells in an earlier epoch rich in marine life.
