Description

This shot is an astronomical landscape of the deep sky! A deepscape. It is a landscape that shows objects from the deep sky as a background! Fear not it is not a montage but it was made using an astro-modified camera to reveal the nebula, with a complex technique starting from the study of the objects to be filmed, determined the exact focal length and the exact point in which to witness the rise of the objects.

As soon as I arrived to Vendicari reserve in Sicily, my senses perceive the intense smell of the place, a mixture of wet sand and posidonia deposited along the shore. These smells blend with the scent of eucalyptus trees and the salty smell of marshes where even pink flamingos find shelter. In the distance you can see the flashes of the storm now distant and directed towards the coasts of Calabria and Greece. The stars shine as they can only on the most beautiful winter nights thanks to the fresh air purified by the much desired rain. I was looking forward to the rising of the Orion constellation anticipated by the brilliance of the Pleiades and the constellation of Taurus. The first stars of Orion appear just above the ancient trap from which the ancient chimney rises and, to the right, the Swabian tower. The entire constellation fills the scene showing in all its richness the H-alpha nebulae that characterize it: from the Barnard ring, to the Orion nebula, from the horse head nebula to the Rosetta nebula. The landscape appears barely hinted at on the horizon to highlight the beauty of the sky and the depth of the universe.

Technical info: photo composite, a blend of multiple exposures.
