Open to the Sky
Starry Sky of Austrian Alps in photographed in this fish-eye view from Ferien Observatory of Alpenhof in Emberger Alm, Carinthia. Above this roll-off observatory and the enthusiast skygazers the Milky Way is captured from star Sirius (left) to Orion, Taurus, and Perseus. The large cone-shape light elongated upward from the western horizon is the zodiacal light; sunlight reflection from dust particles in the Solar System plane. The yellow light across the horizon comes from the nearby towns and faraway cities both in Austria and northern Italy. See this scene in a non-fisheye image.
