From the photographer: “From my vantage point, we can see how the North Star is right next to the erupting crater of Pacaya volcano. Pacaya volcano constantly enters eruptive phases, and for the following months, it would put on an impressive lava show.

Secondary photo: Local authorities announced that the activity of the Pacaya volcano increased, asking local communities to be alert for any eventuality. The ring of fire crosses Guatemala, the volcanic chain marks the impressive scene of astronomical photographs.

This image is a 957 second single-exposure, iso 100 shot with an 8-inch Celestron telescope. Taken on the slopes of the Pacaya volcano, 5km aprox away from the crater, on February 4, 2021, where I witnessed the strong explosions, landslides and rivers of lava that fell from the heights of the volcano. In the sky, circumpolar stars in Guatemala. The north just below the volcanic horizon.”
