Night with Moais

As seen on Astronomy Picture of the Day its a bizarre experience to stand besides a giant Moais in a dark starry night of Easter Island, isolated in the Pacific Ocean. The two brightest stars of our night sky, Sirius and Canopus, shines besides a galactic dwarf neighbor, Large Magellanic Cloud, some 160,000 light years away. The Easter Island’s large statues, or locally called Moais, remained from 13th to 15th century.
