Description

A photo composite of  two exposures. From the photographer: “At around 2.35 am CEST, the narrow crescent moon should become visible over the small town of Altefähr on the island of Rügen. The photo was taken with two exposures from the same position at a distance of 2.5 km from the pretty St Nikolai Church. The oldest parts of today’s church building were erected in the second half of the 15th century. The first photo was taken when the moon was still below the trees. The second shot with a slightly shorter exposure time was taken with the crescent moon above the church. The high dynamic range (HDR) technique was necessary to better depict the differences in brightness and to minimize the motion blur of the moon. Image 1 shows the path of the rising moon as a ‘moon trail’, image 2 a single shot of the sequence.”

Technical details:
560 mm | f/11 | ISO 800 | 180 sec. for the foreground
560 mm | f/8 | ISO 8000 | 1 sec. for the crescent moon
