Description

From the photographer: “The Fortress is a name I have given this 750 feet (229 m) across formation in Bryce Canyon National Park. Of prominent note are Pleiades (the “Seven Sisters” constellation) and Jupiter (the brightest “star”). The moon was only at a crescent stage (about 12%), or it would have overpowered all of the stars (it appears to be a “full” moon, only because of exposure “bleed”. This photo taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera, using a Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II lens. One exposure for 15 seconds @ f/2.0 – ISO 1600, during which time “The Fortress” received 10 seconds of incandescent light painting from a 2 million candlepower halogen lamp, positioned about 500 feet (152 m) to the left (lighting synchronized with the help of a Canon TC-80N3 Timer Remote Controller, because I was working alone).”
