Description

A spectacular view of the Milky Way photographed over Caldera de Taburiente, La Palma, Canary Islands. Bright star Antares at the heart of the celestial Scorpion is on the right. To its left is the constellation Sagittarius, marking the galactic center and the brightest region of the Milky Way. The pale green cast near the horizon is the airglow, natural emission of the Earth upper atmosphere. The image is made during an annual TWAN international night sky photography workshop known as the Astromaster La Palma. Click on the second photo to see a wider angle view of this scene that shows a larger extend of the Milky Way.
