From the photographer: “This is a panoramic view of the Very Large Telescope (VLT) platform obtained during the total lunar eclipse of December 2010. The brightness of the sky was so low which allowed viewing not only the Milky Way, but even such faint phenomenon as Zodiacal light (in the bottom left corner). The moon is visible as an orange disc just above the dome of one of the VLT’s (UT2).”

    This is a wonderful picture taken from a part of the world where we were involved with the provision of the chillers for the observatory.
