Description

From the photographer: “The most incredible display of southern lights I’ve ever seen, the May 10th aurora (May 11th in NZT). This image was taken around 9pm during the first flare up of the evening. The aurora was so bright it completely washed out the Milky Way, even from a Bortle 1 site.

This solar storm will go down in history as one of the best of this era, with auroras seen all over the world.

I was lucky enough to be someone dark with a clear sky when this event took place, and will be something I remember for a very long time.

Move the slider on the image to show/hide constellation lines and labels.”
