Iris by Moonlight

Spring has flowered in Tibet plateau of China, as seen in this fisheye nightscape view from Yamdrok Lake, 4500m above sea level. The blooming flower under the rising last quarter moon is an iris, taken its name from the Greek word for a rainbow. As added by the photographer: ”I’m surprised how this plant can adapt itself to such high altitude and low temperature. An extreme sample of life with the lifeless moon in the background. Should there be a similar scenery in another place of the Galaxy? Or are we alone in the universe?

The single exposure photo is made by the change focus/aperture technique during a flash illumination on the foreground flowers.”
