Description

The bright planet Jupiter and spectacular band of the Summer Milky Way (with three bright stars of Summer Triangle) shine above St. Olofsholm, located in one of the islets of Gotland, Sweden. The name St. Olofsholm comes from the Norwegian king Olav Hareldsen – Saint Olof – which became one of Scandinavia most important saints. They built a chapel in the 11th century in his honor and rebuilt it to a stone church in the 12th century. This summer time image is taken during short midnight darkness of this high latitude location and luckily captured a passing Perseid meteor.
