Description

From the photographer: “This image was taken between the night of May 11 and 12. During the night the auroral activity that characterized the previous night diminished to extinction. The photograph shows the celestial north and horizon over the Tyrrhenian Sea at a latitude of about 38°N and a longitude of about 15°E. The upper scene still shows the presence of the auroral phenomenon at 20:46 UTC on May 11 accompanied by the presence of a sickle moon in the setting phase accompanied by the zodiacal light. In contrast, the lower scene shows the sky to the north with the Milky Way but no aurora and was taken at 01:39 UTC on May 12.”
