Exploring the Urban Night Sky

From the photographer: “Cities are not associated with stargazing because light pollution washes out most of the features of the night sky. Despite this drawback some bright celestial objects can still be observed to nurture exploration of the urban night sky. In this image looking west, Mars (extreme left) and Venus are seen above the downtown Manhattan skyline immediately after the end of astronomical twilight. Venus was at it’s greatest illuminated extent on February 16th, 2017, just three days prior to this image.”
