Emu at the Beach
Description
From the photographer: “This shows the Milky Way over the beach at Miramar. At the right of the photo the ‘Emu’ can be seen in the sky. Instead of using stars to create figures (constellations) the Australian Aborigines use dark areas in the milky way. Their most famous figure is the emu. The head of the Emu is at the Coal Sack nebula just right of Crux. Alpha & Beta Centauri are at the neck and the body is in Scorpius. The bright reddish Milky Way area at the left is the Eta Carina nebula.”
