Description

In this dramatic nightscape view from La Palma, Canary Islands, the moon is captured moments before it sets (right), and the Milky Way shines beyond the passing clouds which are illuminated by yellow light of a downhill town at the coast. Fast moving low clouds are formed in the Caldera de la Taburiente, a 10-km wide crater (with walls tower 2000m over the caldera floor) which dominates the northern part of the island. The caldera originated some 2 million years ago with a massive shield volcano.
