Caldera Galaxy
Description
A spectacular view of the Milky Way photographed over Caldera de Taburiente, La Palma, Canary Islands. On the right the fading glow of dusk still appears over the west. It is stretched toward the Milky Way by the band of the zodiacal light (sunlight reflection of dust in the Solar System plane). Venus is the brightest object in the view and bright stars Antares in the heart of Scorpius is to its left. The pale green cast near the horizon on the left is airglow; natural emission of the Earth upper atmosphere. The image is made during an annual TWAN international night sky photography workshop known as the Astromaster La Palma.
