Aurora on Ice

As seen on Astronomy Picture of the Day, the fish-eye (fulldome) picture made on Jokulsarlon Beach (a glacier lagoon) in Iceland, shows a lunar halo and a strong aurora. From the photographer: “This was a difficult picture to achieve because the Moon was intense (92% illuminated) and the view was south where the northern lights are less likely to appear. But thanks to the intense sun activity due to a coronal hole it happened. Note Jupiter in the left of the moon halo. Here small icebergs are released into the Atlantic Ocean and make countless return trips with the tides, to regularly deposit on the black volcanic beach of Jokulsarlon and offer a wonderful and very popular foreground.”
