Description

Aurora is known to appear mainly in the polar areas. But as a result of the strongest geomagnetic storm of the current solar cycle, auroral displays surprised sky watchers on the night of 2015 March 17/18 from much lower latitudes. Here in Hungary at 47-degree north the edge of the aurora oval appears over the northern horizon with Cassiopeia in the left. Click the second photo to see another view with a chapel in the village of Marko in Veszprem county.
