Description

From the photographer: “Aurora Austalis? No, not here in Alaska. It is the aurora borealis, looking nearly straight up, lighting up our night skies over interior Alaska on February 5, 2011. After the shooting, when reviewing the images, I discovered this image appeared to contain the shape of a kangaroo! Hey, a kangaroo, Australia! Of course, the image just had to be named ‘Aurora Australis?’ It’s is always interesting because when you are watching and filming these very active auroras swirl around in the sky, you can never see these individual frames as they happen. These captured images can only be seen after the fact, when the display has wound down, and you can then review the burst of shots just captured. One of a series of images taken every 3 seconds in order to capture some animation of this memorable evening.”
